Ode to Loud Women

I like the way she talks

The way she pops her consonants into the microphone and

I like that she makes you listen

I like that she isn't polite

He thinks she's rude-- she's not,

He just thinks polite means quiet,

In my dreams she says motherfucker on national television

I like that she cries in public

And I like that she lets people know when she's pissed

I like that she isn't perfect and

I like that she knows it

I like that she tells people not to interrupt her and knows the word no

I like that she uses her hands when she talks and

I like that she writers her poems in pen

and doesn't erase her mistakes but instead

crosses them out so you can see where they used to be,

I like that she is a work in progress

I like that she is loud,

which just means she has opinions

I like that she is bossy,

which just means that she isn't afraid to put President in front of her name

I like that she's a bitch,

which just means that she didn't take his word as gospel and didn't let him take her as he wanted

I like the way she talks

the way she pronounces each part of a sentence

I like that she knows she has something to say

I like that she talks fast when she's angry and slowly when she's hopeful

I like that she takes up space,

how she uses her hands when she talks

I like that what matters isn't if she has lipstick on her mouth but what she has to say
